Ramsey County, MN Park Signage
Environmental graphics, wayfinding system design, user research, map design, custom icon development
I proposed a redesign of the signage system for Ramsey County Parks & Recreation as my senior undergrad project. This speculative proposal introduces a level of simplicity & delight to the experience of visiting a park in the cities and promotes a sense of ownership in community outdoor spaces.
Examples of the current signage system. The redesign reduces the amount of different sign types from 27 down to 12, ultimately reducing cost to the county and confusion among visitors.
A new map style was developed that strips away visual clutter to reveal a refreshing and inviting guide to adventure.
A custom set of icons was developed, including a city-specific icon (lower right) that would change to include the city logo of wherever the park was located. This helps promote a sense of place and ownership of outdoor spaces in a city for new and returning visitors.
